Rissa Miller: History of Superstitions

Mirror, mirror… Why do we throw salt over our shoulders? Why are black cats 70% LESS adoptable? What’s the evil eye? So, what really happens if you walk over someone’s grave, and can electric fans blow away your soul?

Superstitions color our world and have lasting effects on how we all live.

Almost everyone holds some level of superstition. Even if you think you’re a logical, rational person, I’m willing to bet there’s something superstitious you do – perhaps blowing out birthday candles? A lucky shirt for your sports team?

This is NOT a droning history lecture. There are black dogs, noodles (mmm carbs), knights, witches, wishing wells, magic mirrors, poker, and more. It’s pretty much a promise that some part of this program will turn your brain sideways as we unravel the History of Superstition!

Rissa Miller is an editor, author, herbalist, seer, and storyteller. Her expertise stems from extensive research into the area of esoteric history, including ghosts, witchcraft, cryptids, and folklore. Rissa believes the most enduring stories teach us not only about humanity’s past, but also give reason to reflect on our own present beliefs and realities. Join us for this presentation on June 13th at 5:30 PM in the Orphanage located at 777 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg. Seating is limited, so reserve your tickets early!
