
Easy Caramel Custard Pie
April 26, 2016 Our featured recipe for May is a wonderful dessert that you can treat mom with on her special day. It is Easy Caramel Custard pie from the cookbook “Amish Cooking”.
Easy Caramel Custard Pie
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 ½ cups water
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 3 egg yolks
Boil brown sugar, water, and butter together for 2 or 3 minutes until it develops a good strong caramel flavor. In a separate bowl, mix flour, milk and egg yolks.
Then slowly stir in flour mixture into boiling syrup, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat: cool 5 minutes and stir once. Pour into a baked
9-inch pie shell. Top with either meringue from the egg whites or allow pie to cool and top with a whipped cream.
