Capital Cooks: Died-And-Gone-To-Heaven Peach Pie

Visiting Gettysburg in August is a wonderful experience! Regardless of heat or humidity, activities are in full swing and everyone’s having fun. Sometimes, though, you just need to cool off! Beat the heat with this cool treat:


Died-And-Gone-To-Heaven Peach Pie

¾ cup of flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 small package vanilla pudding(not instant)

1 egg

½ cup of milk

3½ cups (1 large can) peaches, with juice reserved

8 ounces (1 package) cream cheese

½ cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon for topping

½ teaspoon cinnamon


Combine flour, baking powder, salt, pudding mix, egg, and milk in a large bowl. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Pour into a 10″ greased pie pan.

Place drained peaches on top, than set aside.

Combine cream cheese, ½ cup sugar, and 3 tablespoons peach juice. Beat 2 minutes until smooth. Spoon on top of the peaches and keep away from the edge– about 1″.

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon on top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
