The Gettysburg Foundation announces two specialty bus tours for the month of May 2013.

On Saturday, May 25, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., join Licensed Battlefield Guide Fred Hawthorne for “Memories in Stone and Bronze: The Monuments of Gettysburg.” The monuments of Gettysburg serve to make this one of the best marked battlefields in the world. Join LBG Hawthorne on a special tour to learn about when and why they were built and the stories they were meant to tell. A number of photo stops will be made at many of the monuments along the tour route. This tour will welcome all ages and is ideal for first-time visitors and those who are looking for a more comprehensive look at the Battle of Gettysburg. There will be a minimal amount of walking. A repeat of this program will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Meet LBG Hawthorne at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center 15 minutes prior to tour time.

On Sunday, May 26, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Licensed Battlefield Guide Christina Moon will be presenting “Marching Orders: A Tour for the Whole Family.” Explore the battlefield, learn how to load your musket, march, fire cannon and defend your position. Get a glimpse into the life of a soldier at the Battle of Gettysburg in a way that will engage even the youngest of history buffs. This bus tour welcomes children of all ages and is ideal for first-time visitors and those who are looking for an interactive look at the Battle of Gettysburg. There will be a moderate amount of walking but plenty of hands-on activities along the way. LBG Moon is offering repeats of this tour on Thursday, July 4, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 1, 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Meet LBG Moon at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center 15 minutes prior to tour time.
