137 years is a long time to wait for a headstone to mark your grave. But that’s exactly how long Sadie Shriver has waited and, while no one knows why her grave wasn’t marked, that oversight will be corrected this year at 10:30 AM on November 20th, the anniversary of Sadie’s birthday. When she was just 7-years old, Lee’s invasion forced her family to flee their home, and Sadie witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg from her grandparents’ farm. In the bloody aftermath, they tended to seriously injured soldiers, turning the farm into a makeshift hospital. 11 years later, Sadie died of tuberculosis.
Come and honor Sadie Shriver, a girl who grew up too fast and died too soon. Learn more at the Shriver House Museum.
