What you are referencing was the Electric Map. It was in existence until the New Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center opened
about four years ago. The Gettysburg Diorama has the battlefield laid out in miniature form and gives you a presentation. The website

I remember around 1967-71 there was an illuminated map showing the Battle of Gettysburg encampments and battles to great detail. It was a darkened area where you could sit down and view the whole presentation. Does that map still exist in the Museum today?

There are definitely some places that are very moving on the battlefield. If you get a chance to visit in November during Remembrance weekend they place Luminaries
at the grave sites of soldiers who were killed during the battle. The only time you are allowed in the National Cemetery after dark. Simply amazing.
