Commemorating Gettysburg

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program launched a new series in 2010 that pays homage to the nation’s national parks. The program encompasses 56 parks and national areas. Currently, they have honored sites such as Hot Springs National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Canyon National Park and Mount Hood National Park. We are proud and pleased to share that on January 25th of this year, the program now features Gettysburg!

The Gettysburg Quarter is the sixth in the series and depicts the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument which is located on the battle line of the Union Army at Cemetery Ridge. This site was chosen to commemorate the bloodiest battle of the Civil War in which more than 51,000 lives were lost, and is the location President Abraham Lincoln chose to deliver his most famous address following the union victory. And, in case you were curious, the inscriptions on the quarter read “Gettysburg, Pennsylvania”.

In celebration of this wonderful event, our Hall of Presidents will be giving a Gettysburg National Park Quarter to every full paid adult admission while supplies last! It is our daily mission to pay homage to the brave soldiers who fought the battle of Gettysburg and we are excited that this message will now reach out to even those who aren’t able to come in person, yet may still experience our national monument.
