Black Walnut Pie

PA Dutch Pies & Pastries With Thanksgiving on the horizon, we thought it fitting to feature a recipe that would make a wonderful ending to your meal.

It is taken from the cookbook Pennsylvania Dutch Pies and Pastries and retails at the Gettysburg Tour Center for $1.50.


Black Walnut Pie

  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup black walnuts
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 ¼ cups dark corn syrup

Make crust for 2 pies and line medium size pie pans with crust Sprinkle the walnuts over the crusts and then mix the filling. Beat the eggs and add the sugar in gradually. Then fold in flour, corn syrup and 1 ½ cups of water. Bake in a very hot oven for 3 minutes then reduce oven to 350 and bake for 30-40 minutes.
